Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Source Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural material
  • Acknowledge traditional ownership of cultural material through consultation with Community and local Knowledge Holders
  • Consult with the appropriate traditional custodians and local Communities to determine suitable keeping places for cultural materials
  • Work with Cultural Authorities to identify appropriate persons within local Communities who hold cultural knowledge relevant to establishing any restrictions on access to materials
  • Seek permission and advice for being on site and using cultural material according to cultural protocols and Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) and copyright
  • Locate and identify cultural material and objects and assess material’s suitability for moving
  • Complete records according to cultural protocols and legislative requirements
  • Identify issues and follow protocols in relation to the return of cultural material to local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Communities
       
Element: Determine movement and storage requirements
  • Implement legislative and work health and safety requirements
  • Assess and document the scope of work required for movement and storage of cultural material
  • Identify and confirm organisational procedures and guidelines and specific requirements for moving and storing cultural material with relevant personnel

  • Identify, move, store, maintain and return cultural material according to local cultural requirements
  • Record details of material requiring repair or attention, and take action within scope of own job role or refer to relevant personnel as required
  • Communicate specific local cultural protocols and requirements to colleagues and/or Cultural Authorities
  • Select and use appropriate handling and moving equipment according to workplace health and safety requirements
  • Handle cultural material in a manner that protects individual items and assists efficient loading and unloading processes
  • Prepare transportation documentation
  • Transfer cultural material to approved location
  • Use techniques for moving material that minimise environmental disturbance and degradation, where appropriate

Assessment Tasks
